Nowadays, data comes from a variety of sources, at varying speeds, and in a number of different formats. Understanding data and its relevance is the most important task for any data-driven organization.
To understand the importance of data, the data czars in an organization should look at all possible sources of data that may be important to them. Being far-sighted helps, although, given the pace of modern society, it is almost impossible to gather data from every relevant source. Hence, it is important that the person/people involved in identifying relevant data sources are also well aware of the business landscape in which they operate.
