This chapter discusses the four major lifecycles of enterprise IT: application service lifecycle, infrastructure service lifecycle, IT asset lifecycle, and technology product lifecycle. These are discussed in terms of their internal processes, enabling functions, data, and the systems that support them. Some overall patterns (portfolio management) that span more than one lifecycle are discussed as well. The lifecycles are visually depicted. All lifecycles are not created equal. This is most clearly seen in the application service lifecycle, which either directly or indirectly affects virtually every function and IT management system.
