Abstract:
Bridges and layer 2 switches are network systems that interconnect networks at the link layer of the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model. The main functionality of a bridge is to determine where to send link layer frames received on its input ports. Bridges are classified based on routing methods, which include transparent bridging and source routing bridging. Transparent bridging is the most popular and common bridging technology used in conventional networks, as it can automatically learn the location of nodes based on their transmissions.
