Chapter 10. Quality of service and security
Abstract:
Issues of system performance and security appear throughout the layers of the protocol stack. Quality-of-service support is an important aspect of networks based on best effort in order to make any performance guarantees. To provide such guarantees, all layers in the protocol stack and the systems that implement the related protocols need to be performance-aware. This chapter briefly reviews network architectures for quality of service. Link scheduling, which is at the core of quality of service in networks, is discussed and several link scheduling algorithms are presented. In the context of security, cryptographic principles and basic network security protocols are discussed. Network systems ...
