Licensing Music
Licensing music (“clearing music rights”) can be one of the most frustrating, difficult, and expensive tasks a filmmaker faces when dealing with third-party materials. Because of this, growing numbers of independent filmmakers are forgoing the use of prerecorded music entirely, relying wholly on hired composers or music libraries. This is unfortunate, particularly with films that explore the past. A filmmaker’s creative and content choices should not be unreasonably limited by logistical or financial issues.
