We all know the hubbub about how the Internet makes it easier than ever to share data, collaborate, and communicate over vast distances and across cultures and geo-political boundaries, so I won't bore you with the obliquely obvious.
I would, however, like to point out that enormous, groundbreaking (dare I say earth shattering?) discoveries have been made possible on the shoulders of the Internet. After all, the Internet was originally created to connect universities around the world so scientists could share data and discoveries.
