With growing concerns about digital security and privacy, the question of trust comes up with increasing regularity. My premise in this chapter is that most people fall into one of two equally dangerous extremes when it comes to technology, at least some of the time—trusting too much or trusting too little. I’d like to play the role of both the angel on one of your shoulders and the devil on the other, pointing out various situations in which your “trust bit” might be flipped the wrong way.
