AI‐CENTRIC TRANSFORMATION is not an extension of the traditional digital era. It is a revolution of its own. The processes, strategies, business models, competitive structures, and economics of AI‐centric business are different than the digital era. The AI revolution is also changing the organization. In this chapter, we will discuss three areas of AI transformation. First, we will cover the unique requirements of modern-era AI‐centric organizations. Second, we will cover the AI‐related change management. Third, we will cover how to manage an AI project.

NEW CAPABILITY ASSESSMENT

Recently, a top-tier consulting firm laid off data science and AI people. Surprised, since data science and AI people are in high demand, I asked a person why the layoff. The person answered that the consulting firm was unable to figure out how to sell the services of the data science team and therefore due to the high cost associated with expensive consultants being on the bench, decided to lay off the AI/data science resources. This is an example of an organization that is not strategically ready to move into the AI era.

AI has introduced at least two broad categories of professionals. The first are the technology and machine learning – trained AI professionals. These people are at the center of the revolution.
