Abstract

Biometrics, with its own uniqueness to each individual, has indeed been adopted as a secure authentication factor by several domains. The biometric trait features are extracted and stored in database. The stored biometric template databases are under the control of a central authority. Biometric templates are vulnerable to attacks such as forgery, modification, and deletion. Blockchain technologies offer outstanding designs and useful tools for protecting and preserving private data stored in biometric templates, but at a price. With a focus on biometric template storage and preservation, a significant issue in biometrics that is mostly unresolved, the advantages and challenges of merging blockchain with biometrics are discussed in this paper. The suggested approach demonstrates that merging biometrics with blockchain improves template protection.
