6Significance of Artificial Intelligence in Spinal Disorder Treatment

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques are revolutionizing many fields of industry and science, including computer vision, natural language processing, autonomous driving, and speech recognition. In many fields where automation is already having a major impact, the availability of automated solutions has the potential to increase the accuracy and reliability with which crucial operations are completed. In the first part of this chapter, readers get a high-level summary of the numerous methods that are currently in development, with an emphasis on those that are used in spine research. Examples of AI and ML applications to spine-related issues include localizing vertebrae and discs in radiological images, computer-aided diagnosis, image segmentation, prediction of clinical outcomes as well as complications, decision support systems, biomechanics, content-based image retrieval, and motion analysis.
