Legal issues are important to many areas of association management as discussed throughout this book. (See in particular Chapter Thirty-One, “Legal Issues.”) This chapter focuses on activities that may expose your association to legal liability and suggests actions you can take to best protect your association.

The first step is to identify and take reasonable measures to minimize or avoid situations that may potentially expose your association to legal liability.
