The Tea industry occupies an important place in Assam’s economy. The first Indian tea produced in Assam was sent to United Kingdom for public sale in the year 1838. Although the tea cultivation was extended to other parts of the country in the 50’s and 60’s of the 19th, as of today, Assam Tea has maintained its international reputation and commands significant share in the World Tea Market.
