In algebra, symbols (variables) are used to represent numbers in either an equation such as or in an expression such as x − 2. On the ASVAB, you are expected to be familiar with working with many different types of algebra problems.

Algebraic expressions are when you have operations between variables and numbers but no equals sign. These expressions are made up of terms which may contain one or more variables.
