Changed Expectations About Work
Our childhood expectation is that we will enjoy work. We start off life full of hope. Ask a child what they want to do when they grow up, and they will name or describe their dream job with wide eyes and excitement. For kids, their intended favorite job should be an adventure, a source of joy and self-respect, something that makes them happy, somewhere where they are to do interesting things with interesting people. For a child, what they want to do for a job reflects their own likes and ability, and a future workplace is mostly imagined as stable and stress-free.
