The Future of Evaluation
Evaluation may be the most important challenge facing talent development functions. Not because talent development doesn’t evaluate, but because it doesn’t evaluate the right things. ATD Research found that while 88 percent of talent development professionals use Level 1, only 15 percent use ROI. However, of those that used ROI, 68 percent claimed their evaluation efforts helped greatly in achieving learning goals (ATD 2016d). There’s a disconnect there.
The same report found that only 35 percent of the 199 talent development professionals surveyed reported that their organizations evaluated the business results of their learning programs to any extent. Talent development functions are in business to serve ...
