2 How Women Struggle at Work
Although women hear the mantra “Find a mentor if you want to make it” even before they show up for their first day of work, the plain truth is that women face far more hurdles than men when it comes to securing mentors, and even when they do, they are more likely to be disappointed with the quality of mentoring they receive. As we shall see in this chapter, girls are still not allowed in many “boys only” clubhouses. But now the stakes are much higher. Women face many varieties of bias and stereotype, and they are more likely to be discredited as leaders.
