Chapter 9. Mark Cuban Hates Me

If you don't know who Mark Cuban is, he's the billionaire entrepreneur owner of the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Mr. Cuban wasn't always a billionaire mind you. He made his success by selling his very successful web site, Broadcast.com to Yahoo! for $5.9 billion, yes, I said billion, in 1999 during the dot-com days. The point I'm trying to make is this guy is a billionaire. For you and me, and well everybody, getting in touch with a billionaire is not something very easy to do.

As an avid reader of Mr. Cuban's blog (www.blogmaverick.com), and a fan of his in general, I came up with the idea one day to see if I could get him to call me. No, not a way for me to find out how to call him, but rather, a way to get him to call me. The year was 2006, way before things like Facebook and Twitter existed as they are today. Sure, the Internet still existed and it was in general easier to try and find contact information for most everyone, but still, you couldn't just go to Google and find someone's home phone number and e-mail address.

Besides, my goal was to get him to call me, not the other way around. The first thing I did was buy a domain name called www.markcubanpleasecallme.com. On that web site, I wrote a simple letter.

Today is Monday, April 10, 2006 and I am launching this new blog site to see if I can get Mark Cuban to call me at 1-888-BLOG-BIZ (256-4249).
