This is a collection of chapters from contemporary books on audio engineering. It covers a wide range across a large and ever - increasing subject. Obviously a book of practical size cannot give a complete account of even one area of audio technology, and that is not the intention here.

The aim is to give a good picture of the field by focusing on a number of audio topics without either getting too specialized or making do with vague generalities. I have tried hard to make this a collection which overall gives considerable insight into the whole subject of audio engineering, but which also acts as a jumping-off point for further study.
