Noise rating (NR) curves and noise criterion (NC) curves are two sides of the same coin, only with different origins; hence NR is used in Europe, whereas NC is predominantly used in the North American countries.
NOISE RATING
Noise rating curves are a set of curves that are based on the sensitivity of the ear. They are used in order to arrive at a single number (rating) for noise, based on sound levels measured in octave bands (see Figure 30.3).
