AAF Advanced Authoring Format. A new project exchange format still in development, which is intended to replace OMF.
Access time The time taken to retrieve video or sound information from a store, which might be in the form of a video or audio tape recorder, a sound effects library, etc.
AC3 See Dolby AC3.
ADAT Digital eight-track recorder using SVHS and tape.
A/D converter A device that converts analogue signals to digital.
Address A time or location within programme material, often selected as a ‘go to’ for machines via timecode.
