3.9 F Male Connectors

The F connector is commonly used for video and RF work. It’s an unbalanced connector, with only hot (tip) and ground (shield). Unlike most connectors, this one uses the center conductor of the coaxial cable as a pin contact. This creates long-term problems, as the center conductor is bare copper and corrodes easily. So if your old F connector goes intermittent, scrape the oxidation off the center conductor and try it again.

Don’t ask me what the ‘F’ stands for, unless it’s the ‘f’ expletive uttered by technicians when the center conductor corrodes and the contact degrades. Perhaps it stands for ‘fairly’, as the F connector is fairly cheap, fairly simple to wire, and fairly reliable.
