Abstract

This chapter discusses the dark side of augmented reality – specifically, the potential of augmented media to reinforce negative and compulsive behaviors and to distribute such socially destructive content as pornography. Building on the discussion of ethics and personal decision making in Chapter 12, this chapter explores how the development of muscle memory through repeated AR simulations can lead to compulsive behavior and addiction.
