NORAH JONES SKYROCKETED ON THE MUSIC SCENE IN 2002. Her debut album, “Come Away With Me,” sold over six million copies worldwide and won in each of the eight Grammy award categories for which it was nominated.1 While her music found particular appeal among older jazz enthusiasts, many questioned whether Ms. Jones’ music was real jazz or not. Hers was the first time the famed Blue Note record label (now owned by the larger-scale and more pop-oriented Virgin Records) strayed from its roots in straight-ahead jazz, and some traditionalists accused the label of not being true to itself (or true to the genre) by releasing “Come Away With Me.”
