Working with the Operating System and External Files

The AutoLISP® programming language can be used to reach beyond the boundaries of the Autodesk® AutoCAD® application window and objects in the current open drawing. Using AutoLISP, you can access settings managed by the operating system and installed applications on Windows or by the application-level settings of AutoCAD on both Windows and Mac OS. You can access operating system– and application-level settings from the Windows Registry. On Mac OS, you can access application-level settings for AutoCAD from the Plist (property list) files.
