Modeling with Subdivision Surfaces
Models can also be created in Autodesk® Maya® software by using a technique called subdivision surfaces. Subdivision surface (or subdiv) models are created using many of the same techniques used to create polygonal models. However, the geometry that is generated has some characteristics that are very different from those of polygons.
