The DMX512 standard calls for a female 5-pin XLR connector on the output and a male 5-pin XLR connector on the input of a data cable or controller. The pins should be wired according to the diagram below. Pins 4 and 5 are optional and their use depends on the Enhanced Functions 1–4 in the DMX512-A standard. (See DMX512-A Enhanced Functions.)
