The first edition of this book was published in 2003 and the second in 2010. In the seven years between them, technology advanced a bit—but not nearly as much as it has since 2010. I started revising the book again in January 2015 and told my editor I could turn in the finished manuscript in September 2015. Boy, was I wrong.

What I found when I started the rewrite was that almost every aspect of lighting technology had changed, and much of it fairly dramatically. As a result I’ve had to almost completely re-educate myself about many new technologies such as switch-mode power supplies, LEDs, optics, protocols, consoles, troubleshooting tools, and more.
