Deploy and Manage Farm Solutions
Farm Solutions play a key role in how we distribute customizations to our SharePoint Farm. A Solution Package, whether it is a Farm Solution or a Sandboxed Solution, is effectively just a CAB file that has a .wsp filename extension. SharePoint is able to open this CAB file and use the instructions contained within it to deploy all the appropriate artifacts to the correct location.
