Manage Timer Jobs

One of the backbone components of SharePoint is the Timer Job. Timer Jobs in SharePoint perform tasks such as processing subscription alerts, emptying the Recycle Bin, and performing health checks based on the rule definitions discussed in the previous section. These Timer Jobs run in the background and do all the asynchronous processing that is necessary to keep SharePoint running smoothly. With SharePoint 2007, it was not possible to manage the Timer Jobs using STSADM, and many administrators resorted to using custom or community-provided STSADM extensions.
