Autoconf generates configure scripts containing hundreds of lines of Bourne shell code. If that statement doesn’t make you wonder how we could ever use the Autotools with Windows, you should probably re-read it until it does. In fact, the only way Autoconf can be used is with an actual Bourne shell and a subset of Unix tools like grep
