Appendix: Different Ways to License Avid Media Composer

Starting with Media Composer version 8, Avid expanded the ways you can get Media Composer from the Avid Store website (http://shop.avid.com). First of all you can buy Media Composer software, like you buy any other software. If you don’t want to buy it, you can get a monthly subscription, which is like renting the software. If you manage a large post-production company or institution, there’s a third option; you can also get a pack of 20 or 50 licenses, so that multiple editors can cut on Media Composer simultaneously. Since I don’t believe that many of my readers are in a position to hire 20+ editors quite yet, I’ll leave out the details on this option.
