The purpose of this chapter is to increase business awareness of the essential elements that should be considered when creating a background screening program. As was discussed in the previous chapter, it is critical that a comprehensive and well-defined policy exists that addresses the full realm of issues associated with background screening. Once the policy is in place, the next decision that must be made is to decide if screenings are going to be conducted by in-house staff or by an outsourcing firm that specializes in background screening.
