tool can be used to find out information about the complete list of IP addresses and the corresponding hostnames stored in the targeted DNS server. It works by utilizing a DNS zone transfer.
A DNS zone transfer is a mechanism used to replicate a DNS database from a master DNS server to another DNS server, usually called a slave DNS server. With this mechanism, the master and slave DNS server database will be in sync. This sync feature in DNS protocol can be used by the penetration tester to gather information about the target domain.
