Digital Betacam format
With the introduction of digital processing and recording of the video and audio signal additional operational controls were made available. Many of the digital design features were intended to help with faster acquisition and more compatible digital editing although no format was considered ideal for all programme production applications. There are two digital versions of the Betacam format. The Betacam SX format is designed to replace the ENG analogue cameras whilst the Digital Betacam format with 2:1 DCT compression and an 85 Mbps video data rate has a higher specification to meet more complex programme making requirements.
