THE NEWS AGENDA
The news bulletin is the showcase of the radio journalist. It is the chance to give the listener a good idea of what is happening in just a few minutes.
Bulletins are governed by a radio station’s news agenda: the policy set which determines which stories are covered in what way and in what style.
Your target listener
All newsrooms, commercial and BBC, have different news agendas and it is impossible to generalize. However, the starting point for the news agenda is likely to be the radio station’s target audience, determined by the Programme Director. The news bulletins therefore focus on the stories that interest or affect their listener.
