ATSC High-Definition Broadcast Standard

In April 1998 the Federal Communications Commission announced a new digital broadcast standard for the United States. The new standard was developed by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and provided specifications for high-definition television and standard definition digital television (SDTV). SDTV is what you see if you have the mini-satellite dish or digital cable at home. The new system will allow a group of standards that can be received and displayed by all digital TV sets.
