ART STUDENT
In 1914, Arthur’s parents and sister migrated from Jamaica to Cuba. After Arthur was born, the family soon moved to New York City. At school, Arthur excelled in the arts, and he won an award for a poster contest. His teachers encouraged Arthur to apply to art schools, and he was offered a full scholarship to Cooper Union, a well-known college in Manhattan.
EARLY CAREER
