SIMPLE BEGINNINGS

Kenojuak was born in Ikirasaqa, an Inuit camp in northwest Canada. Her family followed a nomadic hunting lifestyle. They would travel between different camps in the area in search of food. Art supplies were limited, but she learned how to sew and make clothes from her grandmother. She and her husband, Johnniebo, would also draw using pencils and paper.
