Recently, I was picking up a coffee and I decided to do something a little different.
‘Large almond flat white, please,' I said while handing over my 10 dollars. ‘And I don't want any change, take it for the next person's coffee.'
When the guy behind me ordered his coffee and was told I had already paid for it, his facial expression moved from ‘WTF', to confusion, a gentle smile, then engagement.
‘Why would you do that?' he came and asked me.
‘Why not?' I said with a smile. ‘Happy Monday. Pass it on.'
And at that moment, with that one simple gesture, I knew I'd created a ripple of change for the day — for the guy, for the people around me looking on at the exchange taking place, and hopefully for those who were the recipients of the next ‘pass it on'.
Every single thing we say or do makes an impact.
