WHAT ARE MY VALUES?
We all have values – principles that guide our thought processes, our judgements, our decisions and our behaviours. Sometimes we see people labelled as ‘unprincipled’, but this really just means that the person has principles that are different from those of others, specifically the local majority.
Our values come from a range of sources:
Our parents; their values by osmosis | Our reaction to early experiences at the hands of parents, guardians, teachers and playmates |
Our schooling: primary and secondary | Our friends’ values |
The society in which we are raised | The media we are exposed to as youngsters |
The religious or political atmosphere of our culture |
