In this chapter we will review several proximity technologies that enable automated identification of physical objects and provide alternatives to Bluetooth beacons:
  • Barcode and QR (Quick Response) code technologies, which enable interactions with tags that are “in sight”
  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Near Field Communication (NFC), which enable interactions with radios that are generally “in reach” but may be out of sight
