Critical Resources for the First Year

I don’t know how much you really can teach a person [about management]. It’s like teaching someone how to ride a bike. You can go through the motions. You can understand perfectly well what it is you need to do—that you need to get on the bike, hold on to the handlebars, move your feet so that you turn the pedals just so, and go down the road to that tree over there. But that still doesn’t teach you how to balance. How do you teach somebody that? I’m not sure. You can give them theory, you can give them a good feel for it, and work on the individual skills. But until they get on the bike and start riding it and fall down a couple of times themselves, they just can’t know it.
