APPENDIX IIWHAT MENTEES SHOULD DO

This document may facilitate setting expectations. Mentors should modify this document to meet their own expectations for a given mentoring relationship and then hand this (or e-mail it) to the mentee at the beginning of their relationship.

Mentees should:

• Seek out mentors who can help them.

• Assume that they may need more than one mentor to meet all their needs.

• Be clear what their goals are for the mentoring relationship—that is, what they want out of the mentor.

• Take steps to seek out the mentor, communicating on a regular basis as the mentor’s schedule permits.

• Prepare for meetings by having an agenda, a list of questions, and documents for review.
