In the previous chapter, we stored various credentials such as the database username and password in plaintext. That would be like storing hoards of gold bullion in your bedside table at home and hoping that anybody breaking into your home doesn’t find it. Pushing those credentials to version control would be like painting a huge sign on your house announcing, “The gold is here.” Let’s not do that.
