Integrated Development Environments or IDEs are graphical desktop applications that help to both develop and test Jakarta EE applications. Several IDE products exist; in this book, we will be using the Eclipse IDE, which is free to install and use, even for commercial purposes. Installers exist for Linux, Windows, and MacOS.

In this chapter, we will discover how to get and install Eclipse, and we will develop a first simple Jakarta EE application.
