8Enhancing Your Report
Believe it or not, we have only a few more topics to cover regarding creating reports for your business consumers. But that's not to say that this is the final word on report development. After you've finished this chapter, you'll have covered enough ground to create plenty of useful content, but this is just the beginning of your Power BI journey. And even here in this book we have some more topics to cover that I'm sure you're still scratching your head about, such as, “How do I share this content with others?” We'll get there!
In this chapter, we're going to cover some loosely related topics that will help you enhance the overall behavior of your report. We'll hit on configuring drill-down capabilities, configuring the ability to drill through into other reports, adding buttons, creating bookmarks, and controlling visibility of items on your reports.
CONFIGURING DRILL-DOWN
In Power BI we talk about two kinds of “drilling.” Let's talk first about drilling down. Drilling down in Power BI is taking data that is hierarchical (such as product category and subcategory) and is aggregated to some level and then expanding down into that hierarchy to see what makes up that hierarchy. Several visuals within Power BI support drill-down such as bar charts and the matrix. If a visual supports drill-down, then you will see these icons in the upper-right corner of the visual once the visual is placed on the report canvas:
