- AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML)
AJAX is a method that uses JavaScript to asynchronously update the data displayed on a Web page. The acronym AJAX implies that XML is the response format from the Web server. In practice, however, the Web server might respond with textual or binary data in any format. XML, XHTML, JSON, HTML, and plain text are common response formats used to implement asynchronous Web requests. (Some clever Web developers vary the final letter in the AJAX acronym to indicate the format of the response document: AJAH, AJAJ, and so on.)
