Notifications and Tiles
One of the best features of Windows 8, in my opinion, is that so much information is available simply by glancing at the screen.
With the introduction of Live Tiles, applications can provide up-to-date information to the user in bite-sized pieces. In many cases, the summary information is all I need (“your next meeting is tomorrow morning in John’s office” or “it’s 78 degrees and sunny right now”), and other times, it prompts me to launch the application to get more detail (“John just e-mailed me an agenda for our meeting” or “four of the applications I’ve installed have updates available”).
