Chapter 15. Organizing and Persisting Solution Information

Introduction

In the previous chapter, I described techniques for understanding the solution that involved progressive elaboration—that is, defining a solution in broad brushstrokes, and then describing slices of it in greater detail. This approach certainly allows for a great deal of flexibility and allows learning to take place throughout, but it can be difficult for the team to have a good idea of where they are or what part of the solution they are working on. In addition, this gradual buildup of understanding and focus on documentation often leads to concern about not having any information about the solution available for use on future efforts.
