We have seen that the development of corporate social responsibility must originate at some point from a social consciousness, either from within the company or from outside. Most often, the consciousness comes from outside. Companies are being pressured by all their stakeholders, including investors, creditors, employees, customers, suppliers, communities, the general public, and more. Companies must be accountable to their stakeholders, and there is much evidence that the most profitable and successful companies pay attention to their stakeholder needs and concerns in order to sustain and grow their business.
